Man shot by police, wounded after confrontation outside of courthouse

Police responded to a 911 call about a man who was shot in the face outside of the Washington County Courthouse.

Officers found a man with a gunshot wound and he was taken to a hospital.

Police said he was transported to Shock Trauma and released.

The man was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He is being held at the Washington Regional Jail.

The shooting happened outside the courthouse, a federal building, about 1:15 p.m.

Saturday.

The man who fired the shot was in custody, according to a Washington County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the shooting.
