How to fix aluminum doors
The next time you notice a piece of metal that looks like it’s been coated in aluminum, or worse, the side panels of your home’s aluminum doors are coated in plastic, it’s probably time to consider replacing your aluminum doors.
While many homeowners consider their doors to be the least important part of their home, a lot of the time they don’t realize that the aluminum they’re using may be contributing to a home’s environmental footprint.
Aluminum is used in many materials, but it’s the amount of aluminum used that’s often overlooked, according to a new study published in the journal Environment International.
The study surveyed more than 1,000 homeowners, who were asked about their use of aluminum.
The results revealed that just under half of respondents thought that their aluminum door panels were “good for the environment,” and a similar percentage believed that aluminum roofing and ceiling panels were also “good.”
The study found that most homeowners were concerned about their home’s air quality, and that aluminum was the most frequently cited material in terms of reducing the amount they used in their home.
The most commonly cited material for aluminum used in homes was polyethylene (PE), which is a plastic that is commonly used to make aluminum roofings.
According to the study, nearly two-thirds of respondents reported that they were “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with the amount that they used of aluminum in their homes.
“Aluminum is one of the most commonly used materials in residential homes,” study author and environmental scientist Jonathan G. Anderson, a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Cornell University, said in a statement.
“It’s a critical part of our homes, and the environmental benefits of reducing aluminum use are clear.”
In fact, according a recent study published by the U.S. Geological Survey, nearly three-quarters of all aluminum used by U..
S.-based businesses comes from China, the largest aluminum-producing country in the world.
In addition to reducing the aluminum content of your homes, the study also found that you can reduce the amount aluminum you’re using by using products that have less aluminum.
While there are many options for reducing your aluminum usage, including using less of a certain material, you can also choose products that are made from recycled materials and are less harmful to the environment.
“The use of more sustainable materials, like materials that are recycled, is a critical step toward meeting our environmental goals,” Anderson said in the statement.
It’s also important to remember that aluminum isn’t the only aluminum-based material that can contribute to environmental problems.
While aluminum is the most common material in homes, there are also other materials that can create significant environmental impacts.
For example, a study published last year in the Journal of Environmental Science and Technology found that a single aluminum-containing material can contribute up to 15% to 17% of the total emissions that occur in residential areas.
The main source of emissions comes from the manufacture of aluminum, according the study.
“While aluminum is typically the most visible part of any home, the environmental impacts of aluminum are significant, especially when compared to the environmental effects of other common household products, like paper, glass, wood and plastics,” the study concluded.
